Craig Walker of the Denver Post wins for Feature Photography. Pretty amazing project. Comprehensive, dramatic, informative, and very good.

Better Than Creamed Corn

Behind-the Scenes-of-Photo-Shoot videos are definitely the latest craze among photography types.

I think this is the first one I’ve watched start to finish, primarily because it is short, funny, and has a good soundtrack.

The video shows photographer Joel Sartore trying to shoot portraits of some of America’s endangered species.

The Front-of-the-Scenes video is pretty good too…

Original vs. Authentic

leave a comment

Here‘s an article in the Times this morning about a successful young German author who plagiarized large chunks of her latest book.

She seems fairly unapologetic about it, and her book was nominated for an award even after the plagiarism came to light. One of the jury members said that the plagiarism was part of the concept of the book.

For some reason, when she said, in her own defense, “there’s no such thing as originality anyway, just authenticity, ” the wheels in my brain ground to a halt.

While it’s a self-serving attitude, certainly, given the circumstances, it is also relevant on a host of levels… creativity, copyright, style, and change, among any others I haven’t thought of yet

If and when my wheels start up again, maybe I’ll try to figure out what the consequences might be if there were no such thing as originality.

But then again, it’s Friday, and I was up early taking my son to hockey.
